Section 170
Registers
In 1987, Section 170 was added to the NSW Heritage Act (1977) requiring government agencies to prepare a register of the heritage assets it owns or controls. Understanding the significance of its heritage assets helps an agency to manage them properly.

An s170 Register includes the history of the agency as well as the physical area it controls. It then lists all the properties that the agency owns or controls in a database format, assesses the significance of those properties, and gives management guidelines in a format suitable for compliance under the Heritage Act.
